Thank you for bringing back a great memory I had forgotten - when I lost my teeth, not only did I get some money from the tooth fairy, I got a long letter telling me how much he/she appreciatedit and what the fairies were going to use it for - building castles, etc. You won't believe it but my dad - I think he was an elder at the time - was the one that wrote the letters! LOL. Now I know why I was able to brek free from this cult and why I don't feel guilty about the future with my children and the fantasy world they will believe in for a time. I don't remember being upset to learn the tooth fairy wasn't real, just thought it hilarious that my dad had written the letters - what a cool dad, shame it didn't extend to Father Christmas or the Easter Bunny......

Santa Clause, Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy...
by changeling ini recall witnesses saying how evil wordly parents were by "lying" to their children about these characters.
how witness children were fortunate that their parents always told them the truth.. so, i wonder, have you ever met an adult who was messed up because of having found out that santa clause and friends were not real?
are therapist's couches everywhere filled with these poor souls?

THIS IS MY STORY (And I'm Sticking To It)
by snowbird ini joined this forum on 1may2007 with a promise that i would tell more about myself as time went on.
well, here goes.. i was born and raised in the black belt of alabama in wilcox county.
it is supposedly called the black belt due to the color of the soil, but i have a strong suspicion it is also due to the fact that there is such a heavy concentration of black people in the dozen or more counties that make up the black belt.. my parents were sharecroppers which was simply a form of whitewashed slavery.

How do I ensure I don't miss any real JW news?
by yaddayadda ini've decided to end my addiction and only visit this site once a week because it is eating into too much of my time and i want to get out there and engage with the real world and 'real people' more.
i'm sick of living a virtual existence.
so what is the best way of ensuring i don't miss anything interesting in the jw-world on this site, and i mean such things as new directives from brooklyn, 'new light', policy changes, changes to the meetings, new releases, reports on assemblies & conventions, gb personnel changes, and such-like.

One of the perks of frequently checking in (giving in to JWD addiction) is you get to hear the news first! Bit like attending the meetings - you gotta go to all of them to be there when they announce the date of Armageddon!
No meeting attendance, no 'first to hear the news'! Only joking :-)
Your idea of a 'JW news' category is great - Simon? -

30 Minute Public Talk-CONFIRMED
by stillajwexelder ini can confirm (as there seems to be some doubt) at the service meeting last night during the item about the new watchtower, a letter was read by the po.
the public talk is to be 30 minutes long.
this is to allow for more association and ministry.. lengthy negative introductions about the state of the system of things/deep last days etc are to be heavily curtailed.

I wonder if people will be that fired up to invite members of the public to get all dressed up to come for just a 30min talk - can't see the public being bothered to make the effort IMHO.

Do they DA people who quit going?
by White Dove indo the elders da people who quit going?
i quit going two years ago and when sisters came to my door one time and asked why, i told them that the elders are no different from the pharisees and that i don't want anymore to do with it.
no elders have ever visited me concerning this or any other matter.

B_deserter - can you clarify - if you continue to occasionally associate with one or two witnesses even though you are inactive and not attending meetings and you don't mention ANYTHING remotely controversial, will they pursue you then?

WHY NO MEDIA REPORTS ABOUT JW CHILD ABUSE SETTLEMENTS???
by integ inbig news that the catholic arch diocese in california has settled a lawsuit of over 600 million dollars to victims of abuse.. shouldn't the media be telling the story of the recent watchtower settlement???.
there should be an investigative story on this i would think.. the witnesses always talk about being persecuted, yet they are getting a free pass on this and this is pretty big.

It was definitely in the UK Guardian newspaper within the last two months, but it's not coming up in the search facility on their site - typical!

Is it just me, or this totally contradicting itself?
<<In 2000 the Witnesses changed the rules on blood transfusions so that the Church would no longer take action against a Witness who willingly and without regret underwent a blood transfusion. Some people wrongly interpreted the change as meaning that Witnesses could now accept blood. But the actual change was just that the Church would not take disciplinary action against that Witness.
This was because the Church had no need to take action; the Witness concerned would no longer be viewed as one of Jehovah's Witnesses because he no longer accepted and followed a core tenet of the faith - i.e. the act of accepting a blood transfusion stopped a person being a Witness, without any further action by the Church.
If the Witness later changes their mind and repents of their action they can return to the Church.>>
I'm so glad they've clarified matters!
